College research scientist Jay Garrick accidentally inhaled the fumes from a radioactive liquid. As he recovered, Jay discovered that he had gained the ability to move at superhuman speeds. Jay started fighting crime as the Flash, becoming a member of the Justice Society of America and the inspiration for everyone who uses the name Flash.
