Johnny Blaze was an orphan who grew up in "Crash" Simpson's motorcycle show, becoming one of his top performers. When "Crash" was fatally ill, Johnny turned to the healing powers of Satan for a cure. In exchange for the cure, Johnny was possessed by the demon Zarathos, and would change into a flaming skeleton wearing bike leathers. Battling the demon for control, Johnny tried to use its evil power for good as the supernatual Ghost Rider.
