A team of superpowered freaks, the Doom Patrol used their abilities to fight super-villians, even as society scorned them. Founded by Dr. Niles Caulder, the Chief, its members included Robotman, Negative Man and Elasti-Girl. The adventurer Mento often teamed with the group, and eventually married Elasti-Girl.

The original Doom Patrol heroically sacrificed in exchange for their lives of a small fishing village. The explosion only claimed one member, and much of the team was reunited later.
