A character created for the Super Friends cartoon, Black Vulcan was actually based on a real DC character, Black Lightning. Black Lightning was perfect for the multicultural aspect they wanted to add to the Super Friends, but his creator objected to his use on the cartoon. So Hanna-Barbera created a cheap copy, stealing practically everything except the name and his pants.

The Recipe

Black Vulcan was made from a repainted Minimate. His helmet came from a Bullseye Minimate. The helmet details and lightning bolt were made from Sculpey.
